Subscription Law

Works today

We connect to Memberstack and do the rest

Memberstack adds members only areas and recurring billing to Webflow and other no-code sites, usually with Stripe underneath. We read memberships from Memberstack so that plan names, trials and cancellations match what your members see, rather than relying on the raw Stripe data alone.

What works today

Connect Memberstack read-only and in two minutes you see every email the new law would need for your own subscribers in the next 30 days, customer by customer: payment reminders, change of mind emails, trial endings and 12 month renewals, each with the day it must go by. Nothing is sent and nothing in Memberstack is changed. It is free and needs no card.

The credential: in the Memberstack dashboard, open Dev tools, API keys, and copy the Secret key. Memberstack keys have no read-only setting, so we only ever read with it and you can roll it there at any time. We read members and their paid plan connections, check the credential with one read, store it encrypted and never show it again. You can delete it in Memberstack at any time.

Sending opens from 1 January 2027. From then the same connection sends every email on time in your branding, runs the one step cancel page, works out change of mind refunds for you to approve, and keeps the record. Connect Memberstack now or check your sign-up page first.

Who uses Memberstack

Communities, course creators, newsletters with paid tiers, and clubs that built their site in Webflow. Plans are usually monthly or annual with a free trial. Annual plans that renew need a reminder before every renewal and a 14 day change of mind period each time. Trials need an email before they end.

What the connection does from 1 January

  • Reads your plans and prices from Memberstack. You confirm each one: what kind of product it is, whether the law covers it, and how much notice you promise customers before a payment.
  • Reads every customer and subscription, with its start date, trial end, next charge date and status, so we can work out which emails are due and when. This part runs today.
  • Keeps up with changes in Memberstack every night: a new subscription, a changed price, a pause, a cancellation. Each change updates that customer's emails.
  • Writes two things back, and nothing else: a cancellation when a customer uses the cancel page, and a refund once you have approved it. Prices, products and customers are never changed.

Questions

Memberstack uses Stripe. Should I connect Stripe or Memberstack?
Either works today. Memberstack gives us the plan names and member details your members recognise; Stripe gives us the billing country. Connect whichever you look at day to day.
Will the member dashboard cancel button count as a one step cancel?
If it ends the membership in one clear step with at most one offer to stay and a written confirmation follows. We can be linked from it or provide the page.
Do free members need emails?
No. A free membership with no renewal charge is not covered by the law, and we leave free plans out.

This page explains the law in plain English. It is not legal advice. The detailed rules are still being finalised by the government.
