Subscription Law

Works today

We connect to WooCommerce Subscriptions and do the rest

WooCommerce Subscriptions runs on your own WordPress site with whichever payment provider you chose. Its renewal emails are store notifications rather than emails with the legally required wording, and it keeps no record you could show a regulator. We connect to your store and keep the schedule, the emails and the proof.

What works today

Connect WooCommerce Subscriptions read-only and in two minutes you see every email the new law would need for your own subscribers in the next 30 days, customer by customer: payment reminders, change of mind emails, trial endings and 12 month renewals, each with the day it must go by. Nothing is sent and nothing in WooCommerce Subscriptions is changed. It is free and needs no card.

The credential: in WordPress admin, open WooCommerce, Settings, Advanced, REST API, press Add key and set Permissions to Read. Your store address must start with https://. We read subscriptions and the billing details on them, check the credential with one read, store it encrypted and never show it again. You can delete it in WooCommerce Subscriptions at any time.

Sending opens from 1 January 2027. From then the same connection sends every email on time in your branding, runs the one step cancel page, works out change of mind refunds for you to approve, and keeps the record. Connect WooCommerce Subscriptions now or check your sign-up page first.

Who uses WooCommerce Subscriptions

Independent retailers, membership sites, course providers and small box businesses on WordPress. Plans are usually simple (monthly or annual, sometimes with a sign-up fee or a free trial). A sign-up fee counts towards the total the customer commits to, which must be shown at checkout.

What the connection does from 1 January

  • Reads your plans and prices from WooCommerce Subscriptions. You confirm each one: what kind of product it is, whether the law covers it, and how much notice you promise customers before a payment.
  • Reads every customer and subscription, with its start date, trial end, next charge date and status, so we can work out which emails are due and when. This part runs today.
  • Keeps up with changes in WooCommerce Subscriptions every night: a new subscription, a changed price, a pause, a cancellation. Each change updates that customer's emails.
  • Writes two things back, and nothing else: a cancellation when a customer uses the cancel page, and a refund once you have approved it. Prices, products and customers are never changed.

Questions

Does it matter which payment provider the store uses?
No. We read subscriptions from WooCommerce, whichever provider sits underneath.
Can we add the required wording to the checkout?
Yes. We write it for each plan, and it can be placed above the place order button with a short snippet.
Our store is on http, not https. Will it connect?
No. The key would travel in the open. Switch the store to https first, which your host can usually do in a click.

This page explains the law in plain English. It is not legal advice. The detailed rules are still being finalised by the government.
